We're trying to keep up - really we are - if we're this busy now, what in the WORLD is it going to be like with both of them home :) The nurses are working Caroline like crazy and it's wonderful -She loves getting to be there for so much of the day. And Daddy is still working so hard to get ready for the bar - he leaves on Monday and will return on Wednesday evening. We know he'll be glad when this is all over!!
The boys are now taking two bottles per day and usually finish one of them in it's entirety and the other they finish sometimes. If they don't finish it, they have to take the remaining by tube feed. But that's ok. The nurses say this is very normal - especially for white boys. There is actually something called "Whimpy White Boy Syndrome" - white boys are the slowest to progress - quite interesting. Sometimes they really do just get tired and quit when you KNOW they can finish - oh well - they will get there when they are good and ready!
Alden weighs 4 lbs and 4.7 oz and we tried nursing yesterday - he wasn't quite so into it - he prefers to just sleep away and get his food the easy way. Although he does take one bottle as well. We're going to try nursing again this evening - we'll see! Hopefully, his PICC line will come out in the next few days. He's on his last day of IV fluids and then he'll just be on breast milk which is fortified with a high calorie formula to help him gain weight.
Carson weighs 3 lbs and 13.4 oz and we tried nursing yesterday as well. He actually latched on for about 10 minutes so that was great! We will try again this evening - what a big step! Carson is also back on oxygen as you can see in the picture - he is having some trouble keeping his O2 sat up, but the nurses think it might be reflux - we'll continue to monitor it for the next few days. He hates the nasal cannula which is in his nose and is constantly trying to pull it out - the nurses think he thinks it is a game. However, he did get to have his PICC line removed and is only on fortified breast milk now - how nice to know I'm nourishing him exclusively - although via the pump :)
More to come in the next few days.......
